What we install in Nairobi

Grid-tied, hybrid and off-grid systems for homes, businesses, farms and institutions: rooftop and ground-mounted arrays, battery storage, solar water pumping, and maintenance on systems we did not install. We also carry out the electrical work to the standard EPRA requires, including protection, isolation and earthing, which is the part of a solar installation most often done badly.

Local conditions that change the design

Our office is at Reliance Centre, Woodvale Grove, Westlands, and the warehouse is at Mlolongo, so Nairobi jobs are surveyed and stocked from within the city. Delivery inside Nairobi is free.

Nairobi's constraint is rarely irradiance — the city gets roughly 5 to 6 peak sun hours a day year-round. It is roof geometry. A great many Nairobi roofs are broken up by hips, vents and water tanks, and are overlooked by neighbouring buildings or mature trees for part of the day. The survey spends most of its time establishing which planes are genuinely unshaded between mid-morning and mid-afternoon, because an array that is shaded for two hours a day does not produce two hours less; string behaviour means it can produce considerably less than that.

How a job runs

A survey establishes consumption from your KPLC bills, measures the roof or ground area available and identifies shading through the day. From that we issue a specification and a fixed quote. On acceptance, a residential installation is typically three to five working days on site, ending with commissioning, testing and handover documentation. Grid-connected systems seeking net metering carry a longer administrative process with KPLC after commissioning.
